Western Vocal beginner's course In this course, you will be introduced to the basics of singing: you will gain command over various breathing techniques, pitch control, body and posture awareness, and learn how to correctly warm up the voice and sing select major and minor scales. Additionally, you will work on developing a daily practice routine to develop your voice. These techniques will be applied to a repertoire of contemporary music. In this module, you will be introduced to Pop, Rock, Country, Blues music and its sub-genres. You will learn about the historical and socio-political background of the style and familiarize with the relevant techniques that characterize the style like belting, the blues scale, improvisation, and call and response. Furthermore, you will be guided on how to choose the correct key for your repertoire. Alongside you will focus on tone production. You will learn about the correct placement of vowels, how to sustain notes increasing/decreasing the volume, and different types of onsets and vibratos. Descending runs will be approached to stretch the voice outside of your comfort zone. You will be challenged to deliver the acquired material in a more personal way through the study of more sophisticated songs, complex musical, lyrical and technical exercises. Western Vocal Advance course In the first half of this level, you will learn advanced harmonic concepts such as church modes and seventh chords as well as advanced rhythmic concepts such as odd meters. Additionally, you will familiarise with the rhythmic, melodic and harmonic idioms of jazz music and learn about its components and evolution. In the second half of the level, you will work on exercises that will help build your stamina and improve your command over breath support, sound projection, dynamics, embellishments, vibrato, and register switches. You will be introduced to the ballad style of singing and learn how to phrase and deliver lyrics at slower tempos, you will be guided and encouraged to find your own style, sound and aesthetic. You will also listen, analyse, and transcribe songs from a variety of contemporary artists Ear Training In this, you will get acquainted with different 7th chord qualities, modes of major scales, melodic and harmonic minor scales, as well as modes of the pentatonic scale. You will also work on transcribing melodies and chord progressions, as well as sight-singing melodies in select major and minor keys.
